Attitudinal Ambivalence: Moral Uncertainty for Non-Cognitivists

In many situations, people are unsure in their moral judgments. much recent philosophical literature, this kind of doubt has been analysed terms uncertainty one’s beliefs. Non-cognitivists, however, argue that judgments express a conative attitude, more akin to desire than belief. This paper presents scientifically informed reconciliation non-cognitivism and doubt. The central claim is attitudinal ambivalence—the degree which one holds conflicting attitudes towards the same object—can play role for non-cognitivists.
